In the last year or so, Hilton reduced the value of their points by adding another category of hotels to their program. The highest category used to be a Category 6 and a free night cost 40,000 Hhonors points. Now there’s a Category 7 with a free night costing 50,000 Hhonors points.
Here are two ways to stretch your hard earned points further.
If you’re a Hilton Honors Silver, Gold or Diamond VIP member, you’re entitled to Hilton’s VIP Only redemption rates. Known as a GLON award, you have to book a minimum of 4 nights (15 nights max) and this offer can be used at Category 7 hotels. Instead of spending 200,000 points for 4 nights, you’ll only spend 170,000. This represents a 15% discount on redemption rates.
If you have the Hilton American Express card, you can do even better than the GLON award. The award code, AXON7, allows you to redeem 4 nights at a Category 7 hotel for only 145,000 points. This is a 27.5% percent savings on your points. There is also an AXON6 code, which you can redeem at Category 6 properties for 125,000 points. You can’t book an AXON award online. You’ll need to call in and mention that you’re a Hilton AMEX cardholder.
The only downside to the AXON award is that it’s limited to 4 nights. If you need a fifth night, you’ll have to redeem your points at full value. That brings your total for 5 nights up to 195,000 points, which is equivalent to a buy 4 get 1 free deal.
