SPG Q4 2012 Promotion – Better by the Night

SPG’s fourth quarter promotion is now live. From October 1 through December 20, 2012, you’ll earn double Starpoints on stays of one or two nights, and triple Starpoints on stays of three nights or more. Registration is required by November 30. Stays that are booked before October 1, and stays that occur before registration but fall in the promotion window, are eligible to receive the bonus points.

In addition to the double and triple points offers, you can also earn more Starpoints when you book through SPG booking channels or when you check-in via social media.

When you make a reservation through the SPG App for iPhone, you’ll earn 500 bonus Starpoints. When you make a reservation through SPG.com, you’ll earn 250 bonus Starpoints.

For the social media bonus, you’ll earn 250 bonus Starpoints when you check-in on foursquare. However, you can’t just check-in to receive the bonus. You have to link your SPG and foursquare accounts first.

The bonus points for reservations and the social media check-ins really help pad your earnings. If you’re mattress running and looking for cheap one night stays, there’s a pretty good chance you’re going to earn more bonus points via checking-in on foursquare or making your reservation than you will by actually staying at the hotel.

Get 100 Starpoints and a Chance to Win 100K Starpoints

SPG has announced their You Like Us, We Like You Back Promotion on Facebook where you’ll receive 100 Starpoints just for registering for the promotion. By registering, you’ll also be entered into the random drawing to win one of 10 prizes of 100,000 Starpoints.

Registration begins today and ends at 11:59pm EDT on May 23, 2012. Limit one entry per person. You’ll only need to enter your name, email address and SPG number (to receive your points).

SPG Nice Choice Promotion is Now Live

The SPG Nice Choice promotion is now open for registration. It looks like the rumored details that were leaked are 100 percent true. Here are the details for you:

Earnings Periods

  • May 1 – July 31
  • June 1 – August 31
  • July 1 – September 30

Starpoints

  • Earn double Starpoints beginning with the 2nd stay (no earnings limits)

Get 500 Starpoints or a $5 Food and Beverage Credit at Select Starwood Hotels

As Earth Day will be upon us in a couple of weeks, I thought I’d take this opportunity to share a “green” promotion at select Starwood hotels. It’s called Make a Green Choice. Participating hotels will reward you with a $5 food and beverage voucher or 500 Starpoints for each night you decline housekeeping for your stay.

In order to notify the hotel that you would like to decline housekeeping for your stay, you can either let the front desk know at check-in, or hang the Make a Green Choice sign on your door.

If you opt for the $5 F&B voucher but don’t use it, you can swap it for the 500 Starpoints. You’ll get 500 Starpoints for each unused voucher.

Earn 1,000 Bonus Starpoints Per Stay at Sheraton Hotels

From February 21, 2012 through May 31, 2012 you can earn 1,000 bonus Starpoints at Sheraton hotels when you book a Sheraton Club room and pay with any American Express card.

Sometimes when hotels, or businesses in general, have sales or promotions, they tend to raise the rates/prices to offset any potential value. A random night in April was used to compare rates over on View From the Wing. The result was a cheaper rate with the promotional offer. This was just one night at one hotel so it may not be indicative of a systemwide trend.

Earn Bonus Starpoints with SPG and Foursquare

From now until July 31, 2011, SPG members can link their SPG and foursquare accounts and earn 250 bonus Starpoints each time they check in for a confirmed reservation. There is no limit to the number of bonus Starpoints that can be earned. Combine this with the SPG Getaway Free promotion to maximize your earnings.

Through May 31, 2011, SPG is also giving away one free resort night each day. The free resort night is hidden at a hotel and when you check-in with foursquare, you’ll have a chance to win the free night.

This is a pretty nice promotion, considering Starpoints are not that easy to earn without status. Assuming you’re only a Preferred or Preferred Plus member, you could spend $100 at a Starwood property and only walk away with 200 Starpoints. With this new social media promotion and a few simple clicks, you’ve more than doubled your earnings.
